Roadmap for Chapter 5
Return to Roadmap Pages
The detailed notes
page does not provide much in the way of explanations for
the material in Chapter 5. The two pages for which there are links on the "Notes" page
give examples of using two different programs, SIMPFIN and FINANCL, on the
TI-83/84
calculators to do a range of financial calculations.
The latter also demonstrates doing financial computations
using the built-in TVM feature.
We can link to the pages here:
- Calculations of simple interest:
Simple Interest and
the SIMPFIN program
- Calculations related to compound interest and more:
Using FINANCL and TVM.
On the other hand, here is a listing of the topics covered in
Chapter 5. Later, as time permits, some of these
will be changed to hold links to web pages detailing the
specific topic.
- Simple interest formula:
I = P*R*T
- Present value, Future value
- Multi-letter Variables:
FV = PV + I
or FV = PV(1+R*T)
- Solving for each variable
- Compound Interest
- Effective rate, a.k.a. APR
- Using the FINANCL program
- Using TVM (time value of money)
