Medical Insurance & 24-Hour Support The insurance provided by Global Education Oregon [GEO] is health and evacuation insurance, plus 24-hour crisis management support, that works in collaboration with WCC's Study Abroad Office. It does not cover personal property or trip cancellation. Important: Students are strongly advised to maintain US-based medical insurance, as this GEO coverage only supplements it temporarily. Keeping your own policy active while abroad is important, especially if there's a need to return to the USA early. |
Photography Equipment WCC's Digital Media Arts Photography Department offers students the option to borrow a Canon DSLR camera, lenses, and Apple portable computer with Adobe Lightroom, for the duration of the trip; free. Money Management In Spain Spain uses the Euro. Students must set up a Debit Card with their bank [physically present in the U.S., prior to departure] to enable the usage of Automated Teller Machines [ATMs], to retrieve cash as needed while in Spain. Currency exchange rates shift hourly [impossible to forecast]. Be aware that this factor directly impacts costs. Tap the XE icon for live rates. |
Credit Cards Visa & MasterCard work best, but their use can still be "hit-and-miss." Not all stores accept them. Chip & PIN technology credit/debit cards are the standard in stores, but also to buy train, subway, or bus tickets at kiosks in stations or airports. "Swipe" cards do not work in Europe. ||
Traveler's Checks Not Advised These monetary instruments are very difficult to cash at banks. Can I Use Financial Aid? Yes — Students that would like to use Financial Aid must pay costs up front, and then get reimbursed in May, at the start of the spring semester. Financial Aid cannot be used to pay deposits and pre-departure costs. |
Are Scholarships Available? Yes — Students must apply for Scholarships by 01 February 2018, and if awarded, can use the funds to offset some portion of their costs. Award notice usually occurs in mid-March or later & funding arrives in late spring. ›› WCC Foundation Scholarship ›› Benjamin A.
