Introduction. Textbook. Calculator: TI-83 (go over the option with the TI-85 and even the TI-83, TI-89, TI-92). Cover the difference between Math 176 and Math 180. Web pages. Tests.

Assignment: Obtain text book and TI-83 (or other TI). Start reading the material on Chapter 1. While doing this reading and using our web notes for chapter 1. Go over the installation of the TI Graph-link hardware and software. Start covering the material in Chapter 1.

Done. I substituted for the planned instructor. We got a good start, but it would be nice to know who is going to be the instructor.

Finish Chapter 1 sections 1 through 3. Give the students thye quotient program. Demonstrate downloading programs and transferring them from one calculator to another. Done. Again, we need to figure out who is going to teach the section.

Cover the rest of chapter 1.

Note that the decision was made today to have me take over the class. I have a few conflicts in the schedule, as noted to the class last Thursday.

Assignment: Go to web pages. Print out the grading policy, and read and sign the printed version (both print your name and sign your name). This is to be turned in on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002. Finish reading the material on Chapter 1.

Hand back the test. Remind students that the tests are only one hour long in class and that we will be covering material during the second half hour. Answer questions on Chapter 2 section 1. Cover Chapter 2, Section 2 and start Section 3. Done.

Test on Chapter 4 for 1 hour. Starting at 6:30, we will begin covering the material in Chapter 5. Done. Students were to continue reading Chapter 5, up to and through the calculator program for solving quadratic equations. Started to hand back corrected writing assignments.

Test on Chapter 5 for 1 hour. The final hour will be spent on the first part of chapter 6, reducing, multiplying, dividing rational expressions. Done.

Hand back the chapter 5 test. Hand out the various calculator programs for dividing polynomials. Cover the rest of chapter 6. Done. We spent a few minutes looking ahead at the topics in Chapter 7.
