WEB 110: Recommendations
Homework
Read the homework instructions carefully and meet all the requirements.
- Meeting the requirements is a significant part of each homework grade.
Plan ahead before coding.
- Don't just sit down and start coding, especially as we move into more advanced topics.
- Sometimes drawing out the desired layout ahead of time can save a lot of time later.
Think critically about how your code is rendering.
- If you specify a certain effect in the code is that effect happening? Don't assume that because you typed it the browser will render the code as expected.
Validate your code periodically.
- If you are confused about why something is not working, it could be that there is something invalid in your structural markup or in your stylesheet.
- Validation will often reveal these errors.
Final Project
Get started early.
- Start the project as soon as it is assigned.
- At the end of the semester things tend to get piled up, so have this finished ahead of time.
Satisfy the requirements.
- Make sure that all of the requirements are satisfied, especially number of pages and the number of levels in the directory structure.
Exams
Guess the short-answer essay questions.
- Certain content fits well for short-answer essay questions (for example, compare and contrast or pros and cons questions).
- What topics covered in lecture fit that criteria?
Know the details.
- The multiple choice and multiple answer questions will ask about specific information and approaches from the lectures.
For multiple answer questions only select the answers you know are correct.
- In the awarding of partial credit for multiple answer questions, wrong answers penalize you.
