WEB 110: Class Attendance & Participation Grading Criteria
Points at Semester Start and Total Points
- You begin the semester with zero points in this area.
- You can accumulate up to 40 points total.
Point Breakdown
- There are 30 points possible for attendance.
- There are 10 points possible for participation.
Receiving Attendance Points
- 2 attendance points are earned per class session, but the student must be at class on time, stay for the entire class session, and work on the lab activity (or activities) at the specified time(s) to earn the points.
- On exam days students can leave when they are finished with the exam; they will receive attendance credit for that day. Students taking their exams in Learning Support Services also receive attendance credit.
- Students missing a class session cannot receive the attendance credit.
- If a student has a legitimate reason for arriving late or leaving class early (for example, needing to catch the last bus of the day) they need to discuss this with the instructor. Exceptions are granted on a case by case basis.
- There is no partial credit for attendance.
Receiving Participation Points
- Participation points are awarded for active engagement in class.
- Examples of active engagement are asking questions during lecture, sharing one's perspective during class discussions, etc.
- Simply showing up and saying nothing for the entire semester does not count as participation - that student would have zero points for participation.
- Students can also lose points by engaging in activities that distract other students or negatively impact the learning environment, such as playing a game or engaging in some other activity not related to class (e.g., surfing the Web) during lecture.
