Spring & Autumn 2017 PREVIEW
This course is a comprehensive overview of current digital photographic technologies. Students utilize image input devices, such as scanners and digital cameras, and various imaging software applications to optimize output for specific print and electronic publication contexts. Assignments incrementally investigate the color theories of light, and activate engagement with an array of technical controls and variables available for accurate color management in publication.
The course content is based on the idea that each student has a basic command of photographic image capture — skills utilized in PHO 111. Each student also must have foundation computer literacy skills.
Historically and culturally, we find ourselves in an uprecedented era of image making, as we utilize Adobe Photoshop. The French scientist and inventor, Nicephore Niépce, originally conceived photography in 1827 as images made with light and then fixed to paper with ink—www.nicephore-niepce.com. Through various assignments, students create images for both on-screen viewing and the creation of inkjet prints.
