Project completion involves not only finishing the Web site, but also completing the documentation - both for the instructor and for the client.

Web Site

to Top

  1. Incorporate any changes recommended in user testing and approved by the team and client.
  2. Perform semi-final QA testing, including:
    1. HTML and CSS code validation using W3C;
    2. Spelling and grammar check;
    3. Link check with files on test server;
    4. Make sure all images appear with files on test server;
    5. Make sure "fit and finish" (table, text, and image alignment) are good in all major browsers.
  3. Obtain client approval of the site after viewing it on the test server.
  4. Move the site to a permanent "public" server site
  5. Perform final QA testing, including:
    1. Links work with files on public server site
    2. Images appear with files on public server site
Documentation

to Top

Documentation for both client and instructor should include the work done so far. Brief projects need only contain the highlighted and starred* items.

  1. Web Site Objectives and Project Scope*
  2. Audience Definition*
  3. Production Timeline/Schedule
  4. Success Criteria
  5. User Needs and Task Analysis*
  6. Content Inventory*
  7. Quality Assurance Plan
  8. Information Architecture*
  9. Branding, Design, Look, and Feel*
  10. Usability Test Plan
  11. Technical Specifications
  12. Web Hosting Report
  13. Maintenance Plan
  14. Usability Test Findings and
  15. Quality Test Findings
  16. Site Revision Report

The team's Document specialist or Editor should proofread the printed copies and make any changes necessary to insure proper spelling, grammar, and page layout.

Tips
  • These reports should be printed, and the client's copy should be bound in a report folder.
  • Since they were initially created in HTML, the individual parts of the report will probably not print to best advantage. Suggestion: open them in MS-Word so you can conveniently specify where you want the page-breaks and perform other necessary paper-formatting.
Submitting Final Materials

to Top
to Top
  1. Team leader: Inform the instructor and other team members when the site is on the public server by emailing them the URI.
  2. Document specialist / Editor: After document text has passed QA and copies are assembled (with all pages in order), distribute copies to each team member and submit one copy to the instructor. Client copy should be given to the instructor as well, unless you are directed otherwise.
