Subscribing to Mailing Lists

Module NA17h

Basic Exercise:

Subscribe to TOURBUS: A series of "tours" of interesting places, people, events, and facts on the Internet.
  1. Log in to your personal account - that's where the subscription will come to.
  2. Run Pegasus Mail (if you're on campus at WCC) or your favorite mail program if you're somewhere else.
  3. Start composing a message
  4. In the To: field, type this address - or highlight it in your Web browser, copy it, switch to your email program, and paste it in:

  5. LISTSERV@LISTSERV.AOL.COM
  6. In the body of the message, put in these exact words (no more, no less):

  7. SUBSCRIBE TOURBUS
and add your name at the end, after a space, like this:
    SUBSCRIBE TOURBUS Larry Krieg
(put in *your* name, not mine!)
  8. Send the message, and wait for a reply. (It usually takes between 3 and 10 minutes for a reply.)
  9. The first reply will have instructions on how to complete the subscription process. You will have to use the Reply feature of your email program, and type the word OK as the message.
  10. Again wait for a reply. When you get confirmation that you have completed the subscription process, use the Forward feature to send a copy to your instructor. (Put your name and section in the subject line!)

  11. krieg@wccnet.edu

Other stuff to do (required for INP 159; extra credit for CIS 100 and CIS 101):

Using the information given in module NA16c:
  1. Search through at least 3 information documents to find mailing lists of interest to you.
  2. Subscribe to a mailing list that interests you.
  3. Forward to your instructor the email confirming your subscription, or one of the news mailings that arrives in your email box.
For CIS 100 and CIS 101, this can be used for extra credit - it works like the email notes to your instructor: the first extra subscription is worth 2 points, the second is worth 1 point, and no credit is given beyond that.
