The first step in a project of this sort is to look at banner ads available from various many sources. Lots are on the Web! Here are some places to start:

• Banner Ad Museum: http://www.banneradmuseum.com/Galleries/ lists many memorable banners by category.
• Webcast.com: http://www.webcast1.com/banners/ is a list of banner ads currently distributed by this agency
• Image Domain: http://imagedomainweb.com/html/portfolio_animbanners.htm has a portfolio of several kinds of work, including banners.
• Funny banner ads on InfiniteBabble: http://www.cyberfuddle.com/infinitebabble/features/funny_ads.html
• Earthy banner humor on ChickenHead's BannerTown: http://www.chickenhead.com/bannertown/1.html
• High-tech humor ads at Valley of the Geeks: http://www.valleyofthegeeks.com/Features/BannerAds6.html

Look at 20 banner ads at least, and note down:

• 3 features of the ones you've seen that are especially effective
• 3 features that are ineffective (or obnoxious!)
• the top two banner ads out of all you have seen

Email this information to your instructor, or be prepared to discuss it in class (your instructor will tell you which to do).
